Hello 2019 - It's a new comic book!

Yup, back from the dead (it's a long story, which I'll spare ya). Without any further ado, the Corvin 2 book is completed, printed and self-published at this year's Budapest Comics Festival.

Behold the cover:

Some great Hungarian comics people helped me "dressing up" the book, just like the last time around. We are pictured below with cover colourist extraordinary, Mr. Gergely Madarász. I'm also totally grateful to Judit Anticia Kiss for the book's design and converting the pages into a printable format. Győző Dudás followed the progress of the book from the beginning, and gave some great advice on how to enhance it.

The festival was great fun as always, Dürer Kert (myformer university campus) is an ideal venue, we can hopefully hold on to it for a few more years.

This is definitely the biggest news of late, but there is another pretty big one: I also illutsrated a book, which was published this spring. I'll tell you more about it in the next post, so stay tuned ;-)

Yearly Corvin update

Gosh, those updates used to happen a lot more often. Though I do not post every newly done page any more, as I'm saving those for the follow-up to the overly successful printed book I published two years ago. Here's a peek of the latest finished page, anyway:

The good news there is only about five more to go, so there is a good likelihood of Corvin Issue 2 premiering at Budapest's end-of-year comics fair.

The likelihood is even raised by a real strict new editor on board :-)

The main antagonist will feature a lot in the issue to come, and he also has a special ability to look sharply and disapprovingly. So let's pin our hopes on this reinforced Strict Department now ;-)

Corvin progress report

As promised over a month ago. Well, work is under way, though the herniated disks clearly did not facilitate it. The possible release date for the second Corvin book right now is the end-of-year comics fair before Christmas in Budapest. I can show you a couple of teaser panels and previews for now:

Expect some shakeup in the village.

Behold an unlettered page and my new eraser pen:

Lastly, some lettering in the making, i.e you eventually realize that some text is needed in the bubbles with broken lines too.

That's all for now, Folks. I'll keep you posted on further developments.

Some Corvin updates

Hey Folks! It's been a while, eh? Glad to report I'm making some progress with the follow-up to the Corvin comic book. Even though it is not going as fast as lightning, there are some sneak peeks I can show you:

At first, a snapshot of my brief artistic getaway for a couple of days in late August in the Buda Hills, where I could finally get down to business.

Secondly, a completed panel that will be definitely included in Corvin, Issue 2. Tits are good for sales, I'm told ;)

In related news, I recently took an awesome trip to Transylvania, where - among lots of other great sights - we got to see the ancestral home of the Corvin (or Hunyadi, their real Hungarian name) family, where our protagonists will arrive in the hotly awaited Issue 3. It was a real inspiring time, lemme show you some pics:

Fingers cross this will further facilitate the good work, so stay tuned!

Corvin in English

Great tidings for those who like Corvin but don't speak the fabulous Hungarian language: the English version is done, and is up online on a fine site called Tapastic. Do check it out, Folks!

Have I mentioned that I published my first comic book recently?

It is called Corvin, you may have seen here a few pages from it during the last couple of years.... :)

I am fully aware that the project dragged on for a long time, so this year I decided to complete Issue 1 with (much more than) a little help from my friends, just in time for the Budapest Comics Festival held on May 8 at Dürer Kert (which is a concert venue and club, transformed from my old university campus, if you like fun facts).

Here's me, selling the good stuff at my stall. I must say that talking to prospective customers and signing copies is great fun, so I'm going to do it again - hopefully the same time next year.

And some of the good stuff itself. Only in Hungarian for the time being, but I'm going to make an English version soon online, to practice my newly acquired Photoshop lettering skills. Stay tuned and let me know if you would like to have a copy!

In the Woods Somewhere

So, here's the first Corvin page of the year. Promising start if you ask me.

Panel 3
George: As if the ground swallowed them!
Rider: Is that possible at all, sir?
Panel 4
Kaspar: They are finally leaving, the xx@#&!

Kaspar's exact words are left to everyone's imagination. Next page is already in the works, so stay tuned!

It was up as early as New Years Day on Facebook (yes, the disease is still alive), check out the Corvin page if you doubt it ;)
Speaking of Corvin, we're one more page into the story, to be seen here soon. 2016 will be rockin it, Folks!

Into the Woods

It seems to be all the rage at this point of the story... And trust me, the artist is determined to shorten the wait between two pages.

Panel 1
George: Let’s go after them, lads!
Panel 2
Borka: Dad!!
Panel 3
George: Come on! Let’s get them!
Panel 4
Borka: Thank you so much for what you have done, but now I need to disappear!
Panel 5
Borka: I’ll see you later!
Colin: But… Where is she going? And why did she give you a kiss??
Pip: Please, do you think I can help being attractive?
Panel 6
Innkeeper: Young sirs, don’t say a word to the old beardy about the young lady being here!

And now, some bonus features to make up for the time I spent with earning some money: two of the characters in colour.

Riders Outside the Inn

Well now, here we go again - this time merely two weeks after the Facebook-premiere of this page. It's a disease, clearly. Anyway, here's Mister George as promised and he is even mounted - rejoice everyone :)
Panel 1
Borka: Nice job, gentlemen!
Colin: You were also very convincing, Miss!
Panel 2
Innkeeper: Hey there, we mustn’t let those crooks flee!
Panel 3
Kaspar: Come on, back to the forest… Damn, it’s Corvin’s hounds!
Panel 4
George: Look, it’s that wretched Kaspar!
Panel 5
Younger thug: I’m begging you, let’s surrender!
Kaspar: No bloody way! Get into the trees, I’ll see you all at the cave!

That's all for now, Folks. Stay tuned for some summery drawings coming real soon (meaning real soon).

Corvin - the post long due

Holly Molly, I totally completely forgot to post the last Corvin page here when it got completed three weeks ago.  This Facebook page is a helluva lot successful in making me forget about the blog :/

Anyway, the upside of the matter is that we've moved into uncharted territory now as redrawing was concluded with the previous page. So this is some genuinely new material altogether (or at least it was three weeks ago...)

Panel 1
Thug with moustache: Ouuch… Holy crap!
Tall thug: That was a grave mistake, young lady!
Panel 2
Pip: Really?!
Panel 3
(Pip): What do you think of this one?
Panel 4
Kaspar: You’re jumping around in vain, I’ll cut you up to pieces anyway!
Colin: Let me show you a trick instead, old boy!
Panel 7
Colin: Touché, isn’t it?
Panel 8
Kaspar: Well, so much about this mission…
Panel 9
Kaspar: Let’s get out of here quickly!

Let me show you a little bonus by a way of compensation. A new central character will make his introduction on the next page, to be completed relatively soon. Here's a little preview of him:
Very seasoned followers may remember this gentleman from the unauthorized Chapter 2, which kicked off this blog... a long-long time ago.

Corvin - Raging Brawl

Wow, I almost forgot... These days we post things on Facebook and think they're done, don't we?
Anyway, behooold page 11:

Panel 1
George: Take that and get out of here!
Chubby thug: Yikes!
Panel 2
Kaspar: Get out of my way or you'll be very sorry!
Colin: I’ll give you afree fencing lesson, signor brigand!
Panel 3
Borka: Your friend is brave but is he really good with the sword? This is a dangerous thug!
Pip: Don't worry, he will manage. I suggest we concentrate on these two now!
Panel 4
YIKES! – from behind
Panel 5
Thug with moustache: Young lady, there's no need for violence! Put down that vegetable slicer knife and come with us pl..
Panel 6
....ease... Ouuch!

Corvin: Action This Year!

Wow, it's still January but the brawl is on and swords are drawn! It does give me the brightest hopes for 2015.

Panel 1
Borka: Now-now, perhaps something happened on the way that you sirs prefer to keep secret?
Pip: Lovely young lady, I swear to Saint Patrick that we are not hiding anything from you!
Panel 2
Borka: Saint Patrick? I've never heard of him. Is he a saint of Milan?
Colin: No, he's the patron saint of our real home country. You see, our parents came to Milan from Ireland, a place far away West…
Panel 3
Kaspar (dashes in): It’s a robbery! Give us all the money, valuables and women and be quick about it!
Panel 4
Kaspar: Come on guys! ... What the heck are you doing?!
Thug: We got stuck, boss!
Panel 5
Kaspar: Come in one by one, you morons!
Panel 6
Kaspar: You got a death wish, dandy?
Colin: Defend yourself brigand!

Sweet talk and menace

Our protagonists have finally met during the last episode... er page. But hark, some shady guys are lurking outside the inn...  Maybe we get to see some action before the new year?

Panel 1
Colin: You mean we look like strangers?
Borka: You certainly don't look like honest peasants, and only those types live here.
Panel 2
Borka: Besides, your hairstyle is pretty unusual around here, Mister Gara!
Colin: I beg your pardon, this is the latest fashion in Mila..
Pip: O 'Gara, respectfully!
Panel 3
Thug: The girl went in there, boss!
Kaspar: Excellent! Now we're gonna catch her. Tell the boys we are striking!
Panel 4
Pip: So your ladyship is heading for Ravencastle. Can we volunteer to be your escorts?
Borka: That is a real honour. May I ask what business you sirs have there?
Colin: We have a message for Lord Corvin from an old friend of his.
Panel 5
Borka: How interesting! Who can that old friend be?
Colin: Francesco Sforza, the Duke of Milan.
Panel 6
Borka: Wow! You must have had a thrilling journey all the way from Milan. Please, tell me about it!
Pip: We would love to, but the whole journey seemed to take only a moment somehow!
Colin: Indeed, the Duke sent us here on the shortest possible route...

Stay tuned for some Autumn sketches later this week!

Enter the dame 2.0

Fun fact: the first version of this page appeared here almost exactly four years ago. Time flies, innit?

Panel 1
 Innkeeper: Miss Borka!
Panel 2
Borka: Hello, Uncle Andrew! How's business going?
Innkeeper: Exactly the same as always. But would your father approve of you strolling around here on your own again?
Panel 3
Borka: Well, I won’t tell him if you don’t. I'm heading right back home, just dropped in to say hello and taste this lovely elder wine.
Innkeeper: Are you going to Ravencastle? Those two young sirs are headed there too.
Panel 4
Borka: When did young sirs start to frequent the inn? And who are they?
Innkeeper: Those two, over there. They seem like quite refined folks. I wonder what on earth they are doing in our neck of the woods...
Panel 5
Colin: I certainly hope we are refined folks indeed. Would the young lady like to join our table?
Borka: Gladly, right after the young sirs will have introduced themselves!
Panel 6 Pip: Of course, we should have done that right away! My name is Pip Driscoll, and this gentleman is Colin O' Gara.
Borka: Pleasure to meet you, I am Borka Harangi. I presume you sirs are not from this area
?
