There goes 2016... A final batch of drawings

A few more drawings from November and December to wind up a very mixed year.

Another Vlad Tepes, a slightly more lighthearted version this time. Made at the (hopefully) revived Drink&Draw session in the Tücsök (Cricket) Beer Garden.

Too many great artists passed away in 2016, several of them definitely before their time. Maybe this is not true of Leonard Cohen, who "had many good innings" (as a British mate of mine said), but his death is still a great loss.  This portrait actually resembles a bit to my Dad, who passed away a week after Mr. Cohen, so may in fact be my tribute to him.

A female Agent Kitty, just to walk on the bright side.  Head design kindly borrowed from French comics genius Boulet. Merci!

Next up, a lot more serious cat. Fanart of Blacksad, the title character of an utterly awesome Spanish-French comic, finally being published in Hungarian.

Sadly, another tribute was in order this week, as Carrie Fisher was also claimed by 2016. The original Star Wars movies were defining childhood experiences for so many of us, and she formed an unforgettable female lead character as Princess Leia . May the Force be with her!

Last but definitely not least, let me show you something drawn by one of my finest comics buddies (the cover designer of Corvin himself ), Gábor Pápai. Gábor is one of the proud ones who completed the whole Inktober challenge. He also published his drawings and made personalized covers to top it off. So here's me and Mr. Colin O'Gara, whose further adventures I need to work hard on in the new year.

So, let's call it a year, and please allow me the audacity to wish all of us a slightly better 2017!

This year's Inktobers

Inktober is a drawing initiative that takes place each October and the participants are supposed to make a drawing in ink for each day. I succeeded in making 10 this year, which is by far my best result to date. The prompts provided for each day did help.

So let's see what I made. Different topics were influenced by current personal, political etc. events,so brief explanations are given where needed.

Loud - made on the very day of the failed, terribly pricy and totally unnecessary migrant quota referendum in Hungary.

Fast: Sadio Mané, Liverpool's best summer signing meets the Roadrunner

Hungry: a classic line from the film comedy Valami Amerika

Sad: quoting Moby's song. One of those days...

Hidden: hommage for a fellow Hungarian comics artist

Rock: our prime minister Orbán weighs down heavily on the safeguards of democracy

Scared: Colin from Corvin

Jump: hommage to the great French artist Boulet from his first collection of Notes, now available in English too.

Big: an old World Cup mascot drawn during my holiday

Creepy: no comment :)

Some Corvin updates

Hey Folks! It's been a while, eh? Glad to report I'm making some progress with the follow-up to the Corvin comic book. Even though it is not going as fast as lightning, there are some sneak peeks I can show you:

At first, a snapshot of my brief artistic getaway for a couple of days in late August in the Buda Hills, where I could finally get down to business.

Secondly, a completed panel that will be definitely included in Corvin, Issue 2. Tits are good for sales, I'm told ;)

In related news, I recently took an awesome trip to Transylvania, where - among lots of other great sights - we got to see the ancestral home of the Corvin (or Hunyadi, their real Hungarian name) family, where our protagonists will arrive in the hotly awaited Issue 3. It was a real inspiring time, lemme show you some pics:

Fingers cross this will further facilitate the good work, so stay tuned!

Corvin in English

Great tidings for those who like Corvin but don't speak the fabulous Hungarian language: the English version is done, and is up online on a fine site called Tapastic. Do check it out, Folks!

Summery drawings

A couple of drawings for drawing's sake after finalizing, marketing and selling my comic book :)

I drew the first one for a sad occasion, as a tribute to Bud Spencer (alias Carlo Pedersoli), Hungary's - and of course his native Italy's - favourite action hero in the 1980s. he passed away in the end of June, in the highly respectable age of 87.

Just a random doodling, but may feature in a fanzine one day :) (fanzines are quite hip in Hungary these days on a subcultural level).

Finally,  a fanart for Hungary's big comic book sensation this year (yes, even bigger than Corvin ;) ). Kittenberger (https://www.facebook.com/Kittenberger)  is a steampunk comic loosely based on facts about a hunter and scientist roaming Africa and getting involved in some ugly events in Belgian Congo in the 1900s. Here's Feri Ács, one of his adventurer sidekicks, whose name is borrowed from a classic youth novel.

Have I mentioned that I published my first comic book recently?

It is called Corvin, you may have seen here a few pages from it during the last couple of years.... :)

I am fully aware that the project dragged on for a long time, so this year I decided to complete Issue 1 with (much more than) a little help from my friends, just in time for the Budapest Comics Festival held on May 8 at Dürer Kert (which is a concert venue and club, transformed from my old university campus, if you like fun facts).

Here's me, selling the good stuff at my stall. I must say that talking to prospective customers and signing copies is great fun, so I'm going to do it again - hopefully the same time next year.

And some of the good stuff itself. Only in Hungarian for the time being, but I'm going to make an English version soon online, to practice my newly acquired Photoshop lettering skills. Stay tuned and let me know if you would like to have a copy!

First Batch of Drawings, 2016

Some fanart, paying hommage to Craig Thompson's fantastic new graphic novel, Space Dumplins.

For something completely different, an improvised warrior's portrait. Been reading some fantasy novels lately.

To round it up for today, Space Dumplins in full colour.

Magic Dust and Yelling

Here's to you page 16, right before February is over. Just sayin', we're nearly at the length of a comic book now ;o)

Panel 1
Kaspar: Now, each of you get out a bit of magic dust, and let’s fly back to the Count!
Panel 2
Thug with moustache: Oh no, I already puked on the way here!
Chubby thug: The Count will be furious with us for blowing this!
Younger thug: Let’s stay here instead and become hermits!
Panel 3
Kaspar (yelling): COME ON!
Panel 4
One of thugs: Alright boss, just quit yelling, please!
Kaspar: Dust drizzles, magic flies us away, Shoo, it’s wiser not to stay!
Panel 6
Rider. Holy jeez, lightning strikes!
George: Hell no, the rascals have opened a passage gate!

In the Woods Somewhere

So, here's the first Corvin page of the year. Promising start if you ask me.

Panel 3
George: As if the ground swallowed them!
Rider: Is that possible at all, sir?
Panel 4
Kaspar: They are finally leaving, the xx@#&!

Kaspar's exact words are left to everyone's imagination. Next page is already in the works, so stay tuned!

Happy Belated New Year!

It was up as early as New Years Day on Facebook (yes, the disease is still alive), check out the Corvin page if you doubt it ;)
Speaking of Corvin, we're one more page into the story, to be seen here soon. 2016 will be rockin it, Folks!
